AV狼论坛 Harvest Collaborative plans gardening workshops

The AV狼论坛 Harvest Collaborative garden, seen in midsummer 2025, is a site for experiential learning in food systems and production.
A series of workshops hosted by the AV狼论坛 Harvest Collaborative in Fairbanks will introduce participants to starting seeds, composting, irrigating and managing a garden.
Mallory Smith, the collaborative's garden manager, will teach the classes from late March through early June. She mentors students in the experiential learning garden and has 16 seasons of experience growing fruits and vegetables in northern climates and working in the local food movement.
The AV狼论坛 Harvest Collaborative, composed of community groups, encourages individuals to grow and prepare fresh food, participate in the local food system and make healthy life choices. Each class costs $40. A student discount is available.
On March 25 and April 15, Smith will teach indoor seed-starting techniques. The class is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Arctic Health Research Building greenhouse classroom, AHRB 1W05. Register for the March 25 class at and the April 15 class at .
On May 13, a hands-on workshop will explore irrigation systems and how they work in different garden settings. The class is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Register at . Participants are asked to meet at the entrance of Georgeson Botanical Garden at the Fairbanks Experiment Farm, 2180 W. Tanana Drive, Fairbanks.
On May 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., a workshop will discuss the essentials of composting, from balancing green and brown materials to creating and mixing the perfect compost pile. Participants are asked to meet at the entrance of Georgeson Botanical Garden. Register at .
On June 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Smith will cover the nuts and bolts of how to manage a garden in Interior AV狼论坛. It is designed for beginners, as well as seasoned gardeners looking for fresh ideas. Participants are asked to meet at the entrance of Georgeson Botanical Garden. Register at .
