This is protective service work at the trainee level in providing security and maintaining order within the courthouse for judges, attorneys, witnesses, jurors, prisoners in custody, defendants on bond, and the general public. The work requires knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures used in courtroom security, which involves the use of specialized skills, or specialized equipment, which is learned on the job or through specialized training. Contacts with others require skills in understanding human behavior and those factors which influence or cause behavioral changes, are critical to job success, and involves significant interaction with people at all levels within or outside the department. Work is follows standard operating procedures. Work is patterned involving similar situations and generally requiring only the choice of the correct procedure. Work is performed in a courtroom environment where risks and hazards are known, somewhat predictable and mostly controllable. Operates firearms, restraining devices, and related law enforcement equipment. The physical demands consist of sitting or standing for long periods of time and may require physical exertion in restraint of individuals weighing more than 50 pounds. The work is performed under direct supervision, where the work assignments vary and are although subject to standard practices and procedures.

The Trainer/Auditor position performs analysis of training needs, the development and delivery of technical information systems training related to the Minnesota Justice Information Systems (MNJIS) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) on a statewide basis to criminal justice agencies and community stakeholders, conducts MNJIS and NCIC compliance audits of criminal justice and non-criminal justice agencies as required by state statute, rule and/or policies to assure that the criminal justice and non-criminal justice agencies are utilizing federal and state criminal justice information systems appropriately, and to perform other related activities. The position reviews and revises training materials and audit procedures to meet evolving Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and MNJIS standards for appropriate use of the MNJIS and NCIC systems. About the Position The detective position serves as an expert in complex law enforcement investigations with the Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU). Reporting to the detective sergeant, this position is assigned to the CIU with the Legal Affairs Division of the OIC.The detective position coordinates special investigations, leads task forces, leverages new technologies, collaborates with prosecutors, testifies in criminal prosecutions, and provides training and expert consultation related to financial crimes and insurance fraud schemes. The position must establish and maintain liaison and working relationships with key external stakeholders to include the FBI, HHS/OIG, various other federal agencies, prosecutors, local law enforcement agencies, insurance company investigators, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Antifraud Task Force, National Insurance Crime Bureau, other agency or private investigators, and community organizations.The detective position develops criminal cases, working them until successful prosecution and conviction. This position must maintain compliance with the criteria for peace officers defined under RCW 43.101.095 and operates as a limited authority  peace officer pursuant to 10.93.020(5)-(6) and RCW 48.135.040(2).

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE: Performs daily Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) screening activities for the purchase, use and clearing of financial products and services covered under the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA). Supports the research and investigation within group to identify suspicious activity, determine if a crime has occurred, and write reports on suspicious activity involving financial products and services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs daily screening and analysis of data to identify and track potential money laundering and other suspicious activity involving financial products and services under the BSA. Escalates cases to senior analysts for further review and analysis. 2. Researches and analyzes routine escalated cases of suspicious activity to determine whether a financial crime has occurred. Presents recommendations to team members. 3. Conducts, researches, and prepares Continuing Activity Reports to provide useful intelligence to law enforcement. 4. Reviews and evaluates reports of transactional data to identify suspicious activity and where further investigation is needed. Escalates cases to team for completion or further review. 5. Researches and investigates identified suspicious transactions and activity for standard cases. Escalates cases to team for further review. 6. Develops reports documenting suspicious activity, transactions, and money laundering methods; makes recommendations for potential solutions.
