Southeast AVÀÇÂÛ̳ is defined by the waters, islands, resources and people of the Inside Passage. Juneau is the state capital and largest city in the region, which includes 35 communities with just over 73,500 people, about a fifth of whom are Indigenous Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian. Tourism, mining and fisheries are the major industries.

Outreach includes programs in agriculture and horticulture; health, home and family development; nutrition and integrated pest management.

The B3 (Better Bones and Balance) program offers a mix of strength and power training and group fitness activities for people with osteoporosis, osteopenia or a risk of future low bone density. Participants will learn a research-based exercise/education program proven to maintain or increase bone density. B3 @ Thunder Mountain is for those who want to become more comfortable in a gym setting or learn workouts to do independently at home.

The class is led by Sarah Lewis, health, home and family development agent for the UAF Cooperative Extension Service.

Location: Thunder Mountain Middle School fitness room, 3101 Dimond Park Loop, Juneau.

Feb. 17-March 14, Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:15-8:15 a.m., Saturdays 10-11 a.m.

Women are finally talking freely about menopause and the changes they experience in their bodies and lives. But we need to talk about it earlier! We have early opportunities to reduce myths, fears, surprises and even symptoms.

In this free class, Sarah Lewis, health, home and family development agent with the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, will discuss strategies and lifestyle changes that women can make before or during perimenopause to enter menopause with strength and confidence.
